Fundación San Patricio
Intervención de Felix Serrano Delgado, director del INTEF. 19-oct-2015

Dear fellow speakers, authorities, attendees to III INTERNATIONAL YOUTH SCIENTIFIC CONGRESS “INVESTIGA I+D+i”, good morning to all.

First I would like to thank the San Patricio Foundation, the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (Spanish High Council of Scientific Research), and the sponsors, the opportunity for the Spanish Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports to participate in the opening day of the congress.

At the Ministry of Education, and the Institute of Educational Technologies and Teacher Training, which I have the honor to be the Director, we believe that training in research and innovation should be started from the earliest ages of learning. Therefore we strongly welcome and support this initiative that enable and reinforces that the young talents of school today can became great researchers tomorrow.

In addition, all of you probably know that the digital revolution is quickly transforming the world in which we live. This revolution is changing both, learning methods and skills that our students must acquire to develop their work when they complete their studies and enter the work life.

According to ATC21S project, (Assessment and Teaching of 21 Century Skills), there are ten main 21st-century skills grouped under the acronym KSAVE: knowledge, skills, attitudes, values and ethics. These skills are:

Ways of Thinking

1. Creativity and innovation
2. Critical thinking, problem solving, decision making
3. Learning to learn, Metacognition

Ways of Working

4. Communication
5. Collaboration (teamwork)

Tools for Working

6. Information literacy
7. ICT literacy
The INTEF (Institute of Educational Technologies and Teacher Training) has developed, jointly with Autonomous Communities, a Digital Competence Framework for Teachers, based on IPTS DIGICOMP EU’s Digital Competence Framework for citizens.

Living in the World

8. Citizenship – local and global
9. Life and career
10. Personal & social responsibility – including cultural awareness and competence

As you can easily see, many of these skills are directly related to the research, development and innovation, which is the subject of this conference, so I’m sure that everything you learn here will also be very useful to form yourselves as people trained to live and work in the twenty-first century.
Finally, I wish you a useful days in Madrid also enjoy these rainy autumn days, which is one of the most beautiful times of our city.

Thank you so much.
